There are myths among women who crave vintage clothing.  The myth is that vintage and antique clothing is the same thing.  Clothing from the 1920s are considered to be antique, but clothing between the 30s and 60s are vintage.  The are a huge differences between these two.  Before purchasing vintage clothing it is important to check the item out for tears, holes, rust on zippers, seams, faded colors.  If you like a funky look you need to look for clothes from the 60s and 70s.  These years had bright colors, stripes, and short hemline.  There  was mini skirts and suede tasseled jackets. 

If you are trying vintage clothing for the first time you need to be aware of when they are worn you will have a unique feeling.  You might find uncommon smells or fragrances.  Vintage clothing will give you great opportunities to experiment with your style and look.   If you want to add authenticity in your wardrobe your best option is with vintage clothes.  You might even think about having a party with the vintage clothes being it's theme.

Recently my mother which is in her late 80s now, gave me a box of personal items from my great grandmother.  Just opening the box opened my eyes to her life and how hard it must have been back then.  I found besides many items of clothing of her and her children I found jewelry, eye glasses, knitting needles, quilt blocks, and a letter of names, dates, and births of many of my distance relatives, bibles, pictures, and other various items.  None of these items I'm sure cost much in your days and of course all the clothes are hand stitched.  They were farmers back then and looking at all the items contained in the box brought back memories of my great grandmother I had not thought of for a long time, she died when I was very young.  I will never part with any of the items just because of the feelings it gives me.  I can look back into the past of a very hard working poor honest giving farming family.  I'm very proud to be part of this and am enjoying displaying these items and showing them to my grandchildren now.  If you are lucky as I was to receive items from your grandparents or great grandparents enjoy them and share them with everyone you know who knows this might just start you on collecting vintage clothing as I am considering doing.
